So my bed time came early last night. I was beat from going about 40 hours with little sleep but i always found you power through it when you have a long flight so you acclimate better to the time change. I do feel better today though i woke up at 4 this morning and spent some time texting with parents about school activities back home. I finally got up and went down for breakfast at 630. The rough life part is when i sat there waiting for the restaurant to open i had to smell the baker bringing in the bread (lots of choices). I just sat there and took it in, the sweet french lady pulled out a croissant and gave me one when she saw the look on my face. Rough life i tell ya!

So this region is known for its apple production. They had fresh apples at breakfast and an apple pie looking thing that was amazing! Lots of bread, fresh meats, fresh fruit and of course coffee. That latte did me right this morning. i will attempt to post a few photos from yesterday since my iphone is not cooperating and i am going to the regular camera which does not want to download properly.

So Caen is technically a port though it is inland a bit. There are canals everywhere here so you see the harbor below. The few remaining structures here from the war are the chateau (which has a moat as i mentioned yesterday). I love the moat concept. Hey, if i don' like you then i put up the bridge and you can yell at me from across the way. Its a great concept!! Across the street is the cathedral. The church is not in great shape and actually survived the war but is undergoing heavy renovation. You can see where they washed it and the stone just crumbled away. Very sad but told it will be like new when complete. It has some pretty cool gothic highlights (if thats what you call them including the gargoyle down spouts. A local told me it looked like puking gargoyles when it rains, sorry for the description but i got a laugh out of it).

I hit the road shortly. Goal is 730 and going down the D7 to the coast where i willsee arramanches (mulberry harbors) and a few museums. It will be a long day with about 70 miles of riding today and hopefully end up in st mere eglis which is famous for it being the landing spots of the 506th PIR during WWII. This is the Band of Brothers documentary places for those of you that are fans. Tomorrow is St Lo and then a train ride south to hit the Camino. WIl be a beautiful day. 70 degrees and sunny! Rain tomorrow but hey that is okay. THis place is green and lush so a little rain is okay!
